Our 1991 BMW Z1 Roadster is finished in the spectacular Traumschwarz Metallic aka Dream Black Metallic which throws off sparkles of emerald green when hit with direct sun. Interior is two tone Grey Nubuck.

Technically, the car is based on the BMW 3 series (E30), but that's where the similarity to a production vehicle ends. That's due, among other things, to the extraordinary design and the fact that all 8,000 units of the strictly limited roadster are manufactured by hand. The BMW Z1 is the only vehicle whose prototypes were both developed and built by BMW Technik GmbH. The car also features several technical innovations. The most striking are the doors that lower into the side skirts, inspiring a pure sense of driving that only a BMW Z1 can convey.

Due to its direct connection to the road, the BMW Z1 delivers a go kart like driving experience. It is powered by a 2.5 liter 6-cylinder engine with 125 kW (170 hp), taken from the then BMW 325i. The lightweight roadster is almost perfectly balanced, particularly as the engine is positioned behind the front axle. BMW successfully adds another classic to the roadster collection.

As one of very few Z1s believed to be in Canada having never officially been imported to the North American market, and the fact this particular Z1 may have one of the most fascinating owner histories of any Z1 in existence makes for an exceptionally alluring collectible as it is truly 1 of 1. This unit was originally sold out of BMW Niederlassung in Hamburg and then exported from Germany to Columbia and was apparently owned by none other than Pablo Escobar himself! We are still sifting through and working on translating the mounds of paperwork that may help confirm this previous ownership. The vehicle will be provided with this 'mound' as well as an authentic BMW Classic Group Archive 'Birth Certificate'.

This vehicle is in exceptional condition and drives unlike anything else on the road. It feels as connected and visceral as one of our other all time favourites, the Lotus Elise.
